The Institute of Plumbing - Who are they? What is a Registered Plumber?
The Institute is a registered educational charity with the aim of "improving the
science, practice and engineering principles of plumbing in the public interest".
Registered Plumbers have proven plumbing competence through recognised qualifications
and/or extensive experience. Members support the aim and agree to a 5-point Code
of Professional Standards as follows
Members undertake to:
- Perform professionally, competently and
responsibly
- Safeguard the public interest in matters of
health and safety
- Comply with all relevant laws, regulations,
standards and codes
- Broaden, improve and maintain their skills,
knowledge and personal qualities
- Uphold the dignity, standing and reputation of
the Institute and the plumbing mechanical services industry
By selecting a Registered Plumber you can be reasonably
sure that he or she is competent, and certain that you have excluded those who cannot
qualify.

website. You can discover more about the Institute, read and take part in the discussion
board, and find a Registered Plumber near you. You can also verify my registration in the
'Find a Registered Plumber' section - enter my postcode (RG6 1QE) instead of your own and
my name should be returned.
Membership of the Institute of Plumbing is only one of a
number of indicators which inform you about the quality of the person or firm you are
considering employing. Follow this link for more information
How
to Avoid Rogue Traders
P.S. Do not to confuse Registered
Plumbers (qualified plumbers) with CORGI Registered Installers (gas installers). They are
not the same. CORGI Registered Installers have passed stringent examinations which prove
they are competent to undertake gas installation work and carry out safety checks on gas
systems and appliances. Rely on a CORGI Registered Installer to service your boiler
properly but he won't necessarily have extensive experience with bathrooms, being a
specialist in gas!
